What is reasonable accommodation?

Reasonable accommodation does not mean giving special consideration to people with disabilities, but rather ensuring equality so that people with disabilities can use the same facilities, goods, and services as people without disabilities.
While environmental improvements such as installing elevators and ramps are aimed at making things easier for more people to use, reasonable accommodation focuses on individual needs.

In order for reasonable accommodation to be implemented correctly, it is important for both the proposing side (the side conveying the request) and the implementing side (the side providing the accommodation) to prepare themselves and engage in constructive dialogue (discussion).

The Suginami-ku, Tokyo and the Accessible Design Foundation of Japan have compiled a "Guidebook on Reasonable Accommodation", taking into consideration the perspectives of the both proposing and implementing sides, and outlining the steps involved in its implementation.

At this booth, we will explain about the key points for reasonable accommodation based on the guidebook and introduce equipment and products that incorporate such accommodations.
